Key questions and information for SIPI 2021

2021 Program Information

When will SIPI 2021 take place?
SIPI 2021 will take place during the UW-Madison eight-week summer session, June 14th to August 6th. Instruction is five days a week, four hours a day.

Where/how will SIPI 2021 take place?
SIPI 2021 will take place online with plans to be in-person Summer 2022. The courses will take place synchronously (live) to maximize personal interaction and language development.

When is the application due?
The 2021 SIPI Application priority deadline is April 1st and final deadline is May 1st.

Is there an application fee?
No! The SIPI application fee has been waived for the 2021 program so it is free to apply.

Who can apply to SIPI?
Enrollment is open to advanced undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty and other researchers from any institution and will be useful to those who need to develop communication skills and reading knowledge for research. Knowledge of Spanish or another Romance language is required (2-3 years equivalency).

How many credits does SIPI have?
The courses (listed as Portuguese 301-302) carry a total of 8 credits.

How many people will be in SIPI courses with me?
Enrollment is limited to 18 students.

What does SIPI include beyond language courses?
SIPI offers many co-curricular activities to further build community within the program and knowledge of Brazilian cultures.
